10-inch wide streamer material

Extra wide streamers are a bit more efficient at slowing down a rocket than skinnier streamers. The reason is that skinny streamers don't whip around as much as the wider ones. With this special streamer, you're rocket will come down slower. For TARC contestants, this could be the difference between winning and losing.

We had to special order this extra-wide streamer material. Because of that, it is a bit more expensive. We're searching for a cheaper supplier, but so far we haven't found anything as nice as this stuff.

This material is also twice as thick as our other streamers, so it will hold folds and creases better. Again, that will help you to get more drag from the recovery device, and bring the rocket down slower.

Finally, the streamer has a highly-reflective aluminized coating on it. It is as shiny as a mirror. This makes the streamer sparkle in the sunight and helps aid you in spotting it in the air and on the ground.

For tips on making your streamer rockets fall even slower, see our Technical Publication #4 "The Science and Beauty of Streamer Recovery."

Mylar Streamers

Streamers are used on rockets that fly high and would otherwise drift away if they used a parachute. The Apogee Aspire kit is a good example of a rocket that would use a streamer instead of a parachute.

Our Mylar® streamers shine like a mirror, and are coated with a bright color (actual colors may vary) to make them easy to see in the sky and on the ground. When the sunlight hits them, they make the rocket sparkle, so that they are easier to see as they descend to the ground.

These streamers are 56 inches long, and are 1 mil thick, so they are intended for mid-power rockets (A,B,C, D, E, F motor sizes). They are great in small competition rockets. They are available in either 2 or 4 inch wide sizes.
